London ACORN members secure a big win for greater landlord accountability!

London ACORN started the landlord licensing campaign in 2020. Currently, the London landlord licensing bylaw does not cover multi-residential apartments and townhouses. We won a motion earlier this year for the staff to review the landlord licensing bylaw. The city staff came back with their report only to recommend that the city should NOT go ahead with licensing landlords of units in apartments and townhomes because there is no return on investment!

The report was tabled on Sept 21, 2021. London ACORN members were out at the city hall, did a rally outside and then went inside to speak to the agenda item at the Community and Protective Services Committee.

London ACORN’s collective action secured victory for thousands of tenants living in substandard conditions. Councillors Jesse Helmer and Mo Salih passed a joint motion directing the staff to prepare a new report considering a London program similar to the Toronto RentSafe program. This motion was voted unanimously.

This motion is going to a full council vote on October 5th, send a quick letter to the Mayor and your local city councillor telling them to vote in favor of tenants by voting to pass this motion. Click here to take action
