New statistics show landlords applied to evict at least 323 Hamilton tenants over unpaid rent even before a pandemic ban on evictions expired this month.

The Eviction Moratorium will be lifted on August 1st and it is estimated between 7-9% of tenants in Ontario weren’t able to pay rent during the pandemic. More than 6000 cases are with the Landlord Tenant Board Right Now!
Dozens of concerned tenants marched through the streets of downtown Hamilton to voice their concerns over a new rental law that would make it easier for landlords to evict tenants after the pandemic.
Hamilton tenant advocates are calling on the Ontario government to scrap legislation they warn will lead to more homelessness through expedited evictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
