Members of ACORN Hamilton gathered out front of Spotted Properties, located at 42 Royal Ave. in west Hamilton, to protest an eviction in the city that they claim is a “renoviction.”
Georgia Carbary, 59, says she was issued an N13 eviction notice for repairs to her apartment that include a new ceiling, new windows and wiring.
Carbary, who suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and is on oxygen, has lived in the two-bedroom apartment at 46 Wentworth St. S. for the past seven years.
Her son Harley, who joined the group for the noon hour protest, says previous evictions have been done while she remained in the unit. Due to COVID-19 concerns, Harley says his mother doesn’t leave her apartment and, if evicted, has nowhere else to go.
The group were unable to speak with representatives of Spotted Properties, and left a letter on their front door demanding they reverse their decision to displace Carbary.
