Hamilton News: Mountain ACORN chapter being organized

Posted April 13, 2018

A social activist organization is looking to establish a chapter on Hamilton Mountain.
The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) will hold the founding meeting for the new chapter on April 19 at Burkholder United Church on Mohawk Road East starting at 6:30 p.m.
“People need a voice,” said Robbin Drake, an east Mountain resident and spokesperson for the fledgling Mountain group. “We want action for community services such as affordable housing and (cheaper) internet services.”
ACORN began in the United States and came to Canada about 14 years ago.
Its website says the group has 102,000 members in 20 neighbourhood chapters in nine cities across the country.
Hamilton ACORN has been in place for about two years with an office on Barton Street.
