Today ACORN Nova Scotia had their first meeting with the municipal government to discuss the introduction of a landlord licensing system in Halifax. ACORN members Victoria Ryan, Isaac Crosthwaite, Jonethan Brigley, and Scott Domenie met with city councillor Waye Mason and the meeting was very successful. Councillor Mason came out in strong support of improving the existing minimum housing standard bylaws, creating a stronger enforcement, inspection, and follow-up process, and introducing a licensing system for residential properties.
ACORN Nova Scotia is looking forward to working with the city to implement changes that will begin to address the huge problem of slum housing in Halifax. We will be launching a city-wide petition drive to tell our local government that we need landlord licensing now!
