ACORN Members Demand Rent Freeze to Include Vacancy Control, No AGIs and NO COVID Evictions

Posted on September 15, 2020

This morning, ACORN members marched to Premier Doug Ford's home and blocked the driveway. ACORN locked out from democracy were left with no choice but to go to the Premier's home to demand immediate action to protect tenants' rights. All conservative MPP offices remain closed and despite repeated attempts of reaching out to our elected representatives, we've been denied access and officials are not returning our calls. The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the office of the Attorney General also remain inaccessible!

ACORN members across Ontario have been doing actions since the start of the pandemic - writing letters to the elected officials, doing actions at the Landlord and Tenant Board, virtual protests, phone blitzes and much more but we are still waiting for the government to ACT!

Members are outraged because of this inaction and gross neglect of tenants.

As the province is proposing a Rent Freeze Legislation, we are demanding it to include AGIs, Vacancy Control and No COVID Evictions.

Click here to join our online action NOW. We are calling on Doug Ford to:

  • Pass the legislation that mandates no rent increases, including no AGIs, during the pandemic. This can’t wait until next year!
  • Fully implement Rent Control, including Vacancy Control in ALL rental units.
  • Bring back the Eviction Moratorium and create a rent relief program
