140 ACORN members discuss how to rebuild a people centric economy

Posted on May 13, 2020

140 members from coast to coast joined a virtual meeting (some on video and others on phone) to discuss how to rebuild the Canadian economy that includes all people. Alejandra Ruiz Vargas, ACORN leader, moderated the discussion with her energy and personal connect with more than a hundred people who joined the call. After a big shout out to all the cities and provinces, we went over our campaigns for Rent Break, Internet for All and Ending Predatory Lending.

Members then joined break out groups where we discussed views on two important aspects - how do we put more pressure on the politicians and how can we do outreach when we can’t do doorknocking. Members came up with excellent ideas right from having ACORN masks to joining city townhalls, doing letter campaigns, an ACORN TikTok Video and more!

The meeting ended with enthused members chanting "WHO ARE WE - ACORN" and "WE WANT RENT BREAK" and calling into the office of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development (Housing) to push for a Rent Break.

Members are excited more than ever and are ready to take up any challenge to ensure that the economic recovery plan includes ALL people!
