For our last action of the year, Acorn Ottawa stirred up some spirit in Herongate to fight for repairs and landlord licensing!

Tenants in the area are absolutely frustrated and fed up having to deal with slow or non-existent maintenance, bed bugs, cockroaches, mice, leaks, cracks and moulds. These issues severely jeopardize their family’s health and safety. Timbercreek is known to be unresponsive and generally unconcerned about the welfare of their tenants and properties. Residents work hard and pay their rent every month, so they feel it’s only fair landlords do their half of the bargain.

Despite the frigid cold, a small but strong band of tenants came out and rallied together at noon hour on Wednesday, December 13th  in front of the 2850 & 2870 Cedarwood Drive buildings, to protest against the neighbourhood’s slumlord situation and to demand repairs and landlord licensing. Our group had flags, signs and chants going and then took to petitioning in the buildings!

The fight is long but it continues and we believe that working together, we can make landlord licensing a reality in Ottawa very soon!

Thanks to all who came out for their great effort and support!
